African champions Al Ahly booked a semi-final against European Champions League winners Bayern Munich in the FIFA Club World Cup after they edged past Qatar’s Al Duhail 1-0.

The Egyptians took the lead on the half-hour through a long-range shot from Hussein El Shahat, sending their thousands of fans in the stadium in Al Rayyan wild.

Al Duhail were desperately disappointing in the first half but came to life after the break and were almost gifted an equaliser when Al Ahly goalkeeper and captain Mohamed El Shenawy almost fumbled a shot from Assim Madibo into his own net.

But Al Ahly held on and meet the mighty Bayern on Monday for a place in the final.
